Narcissa's D-X Gas Station is a 1934 filling station near Miami, OK, less than a mile off the old road. Built for D-X Oil, it stood on the final section of Oklahoma's Route 66 to get pavement, which happened in 1937. When it joined the National Register in 2003, it was the main building left in Narcissa, a small village south of Miami that had once thrived along the highway.
What is Narcissa D-X Gas Station?
The station is the chief surviving building of Narcissa, a community in Ottawa County south of Miami. It was put up for D-X Oil, and its name still carries that brand. Little else of the village is described in the record, which makes the station its main reminder.
History of Narcissa D-X Gas Station
Built in 1934, the station is older than the pavement on its stretch of road. That section, the last piece of Oklahoma's Route 66 to be paved, was not surfaced until 1937, so the station's first customers pulled in off an unpaved highway. The National Register listing followed in 2003.
