George, Missouri

George is a vanished town near Cuba, MO, about 7 miles off the old road in Franklin County. It had its own post office for just over a decade, from 1894 to 1905, and it took its name from Stephen H. George, one of its early postmasters. For Route 66 travellers, it is a small reminder of how many rural communities came and went in this part of Missouri.

What is George?

Very little is recorded about George beyond its post office years and the origin of its name. There is no mention of surviving buildings.
