Pea Ridge is a vanished town in Johnson Township, MO, about 6 miles off the old road in Washington County. It had a post office from 1911 to 1932. The name came from a nearby ridge, which had been given its name as a jab, from the belief that the soil there could support no crop except peas. For Route 66 travellers, it is a wry bit of rural Missouri history rather than a sight.
What is Pea Ridge?
The community took its name straight from the ridge beside it. Federal mapping records still list Pea Ridge as a populated place, though it is counted as an extinct town.
