The best-known stop is Ed Galloway's Totem Pole Park, a giant concrete totem pole and ten more sculptures a few miles east of Foyil. In Afton, the Afton Station Packard Museum is a restored 1930s D-X station that housed Packards, old pumps and Route 66 memorabilia, and another early Afton station stood out for having outside restroom doors, one for each sex.

Vinita's own stations are worth a slow drive. The Randall Tire Company is a 1931 sandstone tire shop on Route 66, topped by a wavy parapet of rough stones, and the McDougal Filling Station is a 1941 wood-frame station with an eye-catching stone veneer. Further south, the Foyil Filling Station sits on the earliest path Route 66 took through Foyil. The modern highway has a landmark too: the Will Rogers Archway, the glass rest stop that spans I-44 near Vinita, was once the world's largest McDonald's.

Practical note: these are quick stops, ten or fifteen minutes each, so the whole stretch fits easily into half a day. Vinita has food and fuel, and Tulsa is about 67 miles further west.
